Büyükada is one of those places where you don't need a complicated plan. Step off the ferry, slow down, and let the island happen. But a few starting points help — especially if it's your first visit.

This is a practical guide for anyone spending a day on the island, with Julius as an early stop.

Getting to Büyükada

Ferries to Büyükada (Büyükada İskelesi) depart from Kabataş, Bostancı, and other Istanbul piers. Journey time from Kabataş is about 1 hour 15 minutes; from Bostancı about 45 minutes. IDO and Şehir Hatları both serve the island — check timetables on their official sites before you go.

From the Pier to Julius

Julius is about 7–8 minutes on foot from the Büyükada ferry pier. Walk straight from the dock, follow the main road past the horse carriages and the waterfront, and you'll arrive at Maden Mah. Çınar Cad. No:74. The walk itself sets the mood — quiet, slow, no cars.

Morning on the Island: Start with Breakfast and Coffee

If you're arriving in the morning, breakfast and coffee together is the best first stop. Julius's menu has both — and combining them at a table gives you a grounded start before the rest of the island fills in around you.

What to Do After Julius

From Julius, the Aya Yorgi hill walk is a popular next step — the climb takes around 40 minutes and the views from the chapel at the top are worth it. The waterfront road also runs in both directions from the pier for a flatter, longer walk.

Many visitors return to Julius later in the day — for a pour over in the afternoon or a cocktail in the evening. The island is small enough that nothing is far.

Julius Büyükada

A day on Büyükada works best when it's unhurried. Julius is a good place to start — and a good place to end.
