FAQ & ComparisonJulius Büyükada Coffee TeamMarch 2026Back to Coffee 101

Cappuccino and flat white appear on almost every specialty coffee menu. They look similar from a distance and both start with espresso and steamed milk. The differences are real — and worth knowing if you're deciding.

The Core Difference

Cappuccino is typically smaller (around 150–180 ml), with a thicker layer of foamed milk on top and a drier, airier texture. Flat white is usually slightly larger (around 160–200 ml), with a thinner foam and more integrated, silky microfoam throughout — the espresso and milk are more blended.

Which One Tastes More Like Coffee?

Flat white, usually. The thinner foam and higher espresso-to-milk ratio mean the coffee character comes through more prominently. Cappuccino's thicker foam creates a slightly softer, milkier impression.

If you want to taste the espresso more clearly, flat white. If you want something airier and a little milkier on top, cappuccino.

Latte for Comparison

A latte is larger (250–300 ml or more) with a lot more milk and just a thin layer of foam. It's the mildest, creamiest, least coffeeforward of the three. Good for people who want the warmth and ritual without a strong coffee note.

At Julius

All three — cappuccino, flat white, latte — are on the menu at Julius, built on the same espresso profile. The right choice depends on your preference for coffee intensity and texture. If you're unsure, ask at the counter — the team is used to the question.
